About This Site
The purpose of this site is to log the progress of building a garden folly out of natural materials. I am doing this with about seven other students—it’s part of a certificate program in Natural Building that Yestermorrow has organized. Yestermorrow is a well known design/build school in Warren Vermont. They offer design and building workshops with a focus on sustainable practices.
The certificate program in Natural Building is a little over 85 days long. It’s broken into eight workshops. Each workshop corresponds to a step involved in building a home. There is a design and planning class, a foundation class, a framing class, a class on wall systems and insulation, a roofing class, a heating class, and a couple of classes on exterior and interior finishing. Obviously since this is a Natural Building program the classes will focus on using sustainable and locally accessible materials.
On this site you will find pictures from each of the classes documenting the progress of the folly. They were taken by the students and teachers in the Natural Building program. There are also website and book recommendations on natural and conventional building.
